Hello!

Today I'll record some of the interviews. Raul is not coming so we'll do what we can.

Last week we did the exam and we practiced the interviews, we didn't do anything new.

As we were learning words about nature here is some HOMEWORK for you (for Irene):http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=9289 You can do all the exercises.

miércoles, 10 de junio de 2015

Hello!

Last Friday we reviewed vocabulary: nature and hobbies.

We also practiced the interviews we are going to record in video. Irene is going to be a nurse who lives in London. Alejandro and Raul are both football players and they both play for the same team, the Real Madrid. Alvaro was did not come to class, but he is also going to be a football player.

Some of the students have to ask the questions, be the interviewers, and these are the questions they must ask:

What's your name?
How old are you?
What do you do?
Where do you work? or What team do you play for?
Where are you from?
Where do you live?
Who do you live with?
How many children have you got?
What are their names?
What do you like doing in your free time?

Please, Irene and Raul, practice the questions. Not all the questions are for everybody.

HOMEWORK

Answer the questions:

1. How many chairs are there in your living room?

2. Is there a desk in your bedroom?

3. Are there any pictures in your kitchen?

4. Is there a lamp next to your bed?

5. Is there a sharpener in your pencil case?

Examples:  Is there a book case in your living room? Yes, there is.
Are  there any toys on your bed? No, there aren't, the toys are in the toybox.

Then go the link:http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=3161

Answer the questions.

Finally, choose 1 boy or 1 girl as your friend and write about him or her:

What's his/her name?
How old is he/she?
What does he/she look like?
What is he/she wearing?
What does he/she like doing? (Invent it)

Hello!

Last week we continued practicing sentences like " I like playing the flute" or " I don't like fishing"
Students filled a chart with the names of 5 children and pictures of various activities. They had to decide what activities the children liked and which ones they didn't. Then they had to talk to a partner and ask questions such as:

Does Mary like eating vegetables?
And their partner had to answer:

Yes, she does
or
No, she doesn't

That way students could fill in the second chart, which had to look the same as their partner's.

Later students tried to imagine a character and answer a number of questions about them:

What's your name?
How old are you?
Where do you live?
What's your job?
Who do you live with?
What do you like doing in your free time?

And some other questions unique to each character.

It was "mixing day", so after the break, students got together with a group of older children which were teaching them things about the summer holidays through some fun activities, like drawing a picture and searching for words.

HOMEWORK

Irene and Raul can do everything.
Alejandro can do Exercises 2 & 3. Write 8 sentences in your notebook.

viernes, 22 de mayo de 2015

Well, I thought I had already written the blog.

Last week we reviewed hobbies and free time activities and then we started to learn about another topic: Nature.

We studied these words:

sea
ocean
beach
moon
sky
river,\
lake
pond
mountains
hills
plant
tree
leave
grass
field
forest

Most of these words were not new for most of the students, so it was not difficult, but we'll continue today.

HOMEWORK

Go over the words.
Go to this link:http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=6329
Do the exercises. Here they use the word woods (We learned the word forest).

Then, make a picture of the countryside. Put a mountain, a field, a tree with leaves in the field, a river, some plants along the river, a lake, some ducks in the lake and a boy or a girl climbing a tree.

Last Friday everybody behaved better. I am quite glad.

We studied the names of hobbies:

dancing
cycling
playing computer games
reading
playing cards
playing chess
playing volleyball
doing gardening
fish keeping
making scrapbooks
collecting things
playing an instrument
drawing pictures
singing
watching TV
playing football
running
fishing
swimming
taking photos

There were a few more but I can't remember and I haven't got the flashcards with me.

Students practiced asking each other questions such as: Do you like fishing? or Does Alvaro like collecting things?
Students also wrote the names of the hobbies on cards and then we played the memory game.

Last they wrote sentences about a friend, saying what that friend likes and doesn't like. For example:

Ana likes playing volleyball but she doesn't like drawing pictures.

HOMEWORK

Ask everybody in your family what they like doing as a hobby and also what they don't like doing.

Then, write it down. Example: My mother likes dancing but she doesn't like singing.

Write 2 sentences like that for each member of your family.

Hello children!

Last Friday we practiced first saying what we like doing:

I like playing football.

I like dancing.

I like playing hide and seek.

I like drawing pictures.

I like going to the cinema.

Some children liked doing a lot of things, other children liked doing only one or two things or that is what they said.

Then we talked about things we wanted to do at that moment instead of studying or things we didn't really want to do.

We put a list of things on the board and children chose the ones they wanted to do:

I want to eat an ice-cream.

I want to buy a toy.

I want to draw a picture.

I want to watch TV.

I want to go to the zoo.

Children usually want to do those things.
We played a game. Children were given 3 cards, each one  showed an activity - the activities they wanted to do - The other students had to ask: Do you want to play the guitar? or Do you want to run? They got points when the guessed.

Later, we read about Stella's family and answer some questions. Children in this group are excellent readers for their age.

HOMEWORK

Go to this link and do the exercise. http://www.englishexercises.org/exercise.asp?id=6315

When you see and X you have to say that he or she doesn't like doing something.
Example: He doesn't like skateboarding.

Or, when there are 2 or more people: they don't like doing something.
Example: They don't like cooking.

When you have a Check mark symbol then you have to write:
1 Person
Example: He likes taking photos.

2 or more people
Example:  They like playing volleyball.

Write the sentences in your notebook.

Hello and welcome back!

We all had a nice holiday. And now we must continue studying the jobs people do.

In our last lesson students had to identify a job given its description. For example:

This person puts out fires.

or

This person drives a taxi.

Students were able to identify all the jobs and even say what some people do in their jobs.

Later we listened to Stella, Simon and Suzy talk about their family and say what some of their members did. Their aunt, for instance, is a doctor and Stella wants to be a doctor too.
Their uncle is a farmer. And Suzy just wants to be funny like her granddad.
Students answered some questions about the listening.

We also read a story about a boy, Ben, who has a great imagination. Children had to make up a different end to the story. They had some good ideas.

HOMEWORK

Go to this link, watch the video and do the exercises.http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=5270

Then match the sentences with the jobs.

1. She sells fruits and vegetables.                                                a. A doctor
2. She answers the phone and writes letters.                                b. A chef or cook.
3. He sells meat.                                                                           c. A greengrocer.
4. He helps sick people.                                                               d. A baker
5. He makes bread.                                                                       e. A secretary.
6. She cooks meal in a restaurant.                                                f. A butcher.

Hello!

Remember this afternoon we have a Flea Market. It will be more fun if each one of you brings something to sell.

No we are in Spring. And next week we are having our Spring Holidays. Traditionally they are called Easter Holidays. Some of the things they do during this celebration is decorate eggs. Then the eggs are hidden and children have to find them.

Here is a link to a nice video about decorating eggs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P09FiCLhd1Q

You can watch it and then say 3 things you can do to decorate them.

Last week you all did very well the exercises you did. Wonderful job, Alejandro, I was really impressed.

Then we continued studying jobs grownups have and you even said what you want to be when you grow up yourself.

Some of the jobs we are studying are: nurse, doctor, chef, waiter, waitress, teacher, cashier (in a supermarket), car mechanic, plumber, secretary, police officer, bus driver, taxi driver, truck driver, actor, actress, farmer, barber, hairdresser, vet.

There are hundreds of other jobs but we cannot learn all at the same time.

HOMEWORK

1. Go to this link and practice job words. http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=6287  Do the first 3 exercise. Only answer the questions you know. Some of them may be too difficult. Forget about them. Write 10 sentences in your notebook.

2. Do the Exercise above: watch the video about Easter Eggs and say 3 things you can do to decorate them.

viernes, 20 de marzo de 2015

Hi!

Don't pay attention to the entries before. A student from another group made a mistake. I don't want to delete them because he or she may want to copy  and paste them somewhere else.

Last week we continued rehearsing the play. Some of the students already know their lines.

The end of this term is coming so it is time to review what we have been studying. So this is what you must do for your homework.

HOMEWORK

Review feelings and emotions:

Happy, sad, angry, surprised, shocked, bored, scared, sick, thirsty, tired.

Review places in the city:

Pet shop, furniture shop, book shop, library, park, fire station, police station, post office, park, fitness centre, bus stop, night club, cafe, restaurant, hotel, zoo, cinema, hairdresser's, bakery, supermarket, bank.

martes, 10 de marzo de 2015

The children in this group wanted to do another play. So we started one last week. It is called The Vampires of Planet X and it is about 2 friends who go for a picnic in the forest and find a spaceship.

The girls' parts are played by Luna and Irene: Jane and Wendy.

Out of the spaceship come 2 strange aliens who are also vampires, their parts are played by Alvaro and Alejandro: Zaramon and Krion.  These aliens are hungry for human blood and they really scare the girls, who ask for help. Here comes the Inspector to help them, played by Raúl.

Each student had to highlight their lines in the papers they were given. Then we rehearsed a few times. They all did a good job. The sentences they have to say are quite short and easy, so I am sure they won´t have a problem learning them.

The spring is coming so we are not going to talk about being sick any more. Enough of that. Besides, all the students know their vocabulary, questions and answers. So if they are not feeling well they´ll be able to talk about it and say what´s the matter or what´s wrong with them.

They also know how to talk about obligations, what they must do and what they must not do

HOMEWORK

A little reviewing of must and mustn´t. I know you like these exercises.

Link:http:http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=6837

NOTICE THAT: In the 2nd and 3rd exercises, they give you the words have to. Have to = must. We studied must, so use must.

Example: In number 1 of the 2nd exercise you must write:

You mustn't feed the animals in the zoo.

martes, 3 de marzo de 2015

Hello!

We have been studying words related to health and illness and the students know most of them already.

We worked hard last Friday. We talked about things we must do and things we mustn't do in class, when we are sick and so on.

We watched a "Get Well soon" video and song. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdVRWT7dc9k and learned what things we must do when we are sick, like:

We must get a rest.
We must relax.
We must drink juice.

We read what people do to get better and then students were given some words and completed the sentences like a puzzle. They did a good job.

Students now know that when people are sick with the flu and they have a fever and a cold,

They  stay at home in bed

They don't go to school.

They  drink fluids.

They  take medicine.

They see a doctor.

HOMEWORK

Go to this link and do the first 3 exercises. http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=5456

When you finish the last exercise - They don't feel well. Use the correct pronoun - write 4 sentences in your notebook.

miércoles, 25 de febrero de 2015

Hello boys and girls!

I just realized I had forgotten to write your blog. That's because I have been sick and tired. Now I am feeling better.

In our last lesson we continued studying words about health - or the opposite: being sick. Most students already know those words, I am glad to say, even though they are very healthy.

When you are sick you stay at home, in bed. You don't go to school.
That's what happened to Simon. He has a cold and a temperature and the doctor says he must stay at home, in bed. He mustn't get up.

That's something we studied last Friday:

Things that you must do

and
Things that you mustn't do

Examples of things you must do in school:

You must listen to the teacher.
You must participate in all the activities.
You must ask questions.

Examples of things you mustn't do in school:

You mustn't shout in the classroom.
You mustn't kick your classmates.
You mustn't write on your classmate's notebook.

HOMEWORK

Go to this link http://www.englishexercises.org/makeagame/viewgame.asp?id=5140 and do the 1st Exercise: say in the sentences are true or false.

In the 2nd exercise: write 4 sentences that you understand.

lunes, 9 de febrero de 2015

Last Friday we were studying about being sick. Very appropriate for this time of the year, when so many people are sick.

We studied the words: headache, earache, toothache, stomach ache, a cold, fever,  runny nose,  sore throat, cough, cut, broken arm or leg.

We watched a funny video and were learning the song. Here is the link:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJHtpAriDp0

We were also playing with the flashcards and students had to act out they were sick: the other students had to discover what was the matter.

We reviewed the parts of the body and did a listening exercise. Students had to decide if the sentences they heard were the same as the pictures on their worksheet.

HOMEWORK Go to this linkhttp://resources.marshalladulteducation.org/hot_potatoes/symptoms/symptoms.htm and do the exercise.

Then write 5 of the sentences. Ex: He has a toothache. And make a drawing.

martes, 3 de febrero de 2015

Hello boys and girls!

Last week we did several activities related to eating and food. We listened to a conversation Stella's family had when eating dinner. Then students role played the conversation. They asked questions like:

Can I have some juice please?

Can I have some brown bread?

Later students had to decide what Stella and her friends were eating and drinking and also ask a partner some questions to find out what the other student had written:

They repeated the questions: What's Simon eating? and What's Simon drinking? and gave answers to their partner's questions: Ex: Simon is eating chicken and rice and he is drinking milk.

HOMEWORK

Imagine you are having dinner with your family.

1. Decide what there is for dinner:

Starter: soup, salad, spaghetti, beans, rice, vegetables?

Main course: steak with fries, fish, fried eggs, pizza, meat balls, chicken with fries, etc.?

Dessert: fruit, yogurt, cake, ice-cream, etc.?

Example:
Starter: Vegetable soup
Main Course: Chicken with fries.
Dessert: fruit or yogurt.

Then write a conversation:

Example

Brother: Can I have some soup, please?
Mother: Sure, here you are.
Sister: Can I have some bread, Dad?
Father: Here you are. Danni, are you drinking water or milk?
Brother: Milk, please.
Father: What about you, Liza?
Sister: Water for me, please.
Mother: Here is your chicken, Danni.
Brother: Thank you, Mom, I don't want fries.
Sister: Can I have Danni's fries?
Father: Ok,
Mom: what are you eating for dessert?
Brother: An apple.
Sister: Can I have a banana and yogurt?

lunes, 26 de enero de 2015

Welcome back Alejandro!

In out last lesson we concentrated on spelling. We reviewed the places in the city and things we can do in those places.

We can buy a table in a furniture store.

We can see animals at the zoo.

We can wait for the bus at the bus stop.

We can play in the park.

We can get a haircut at the hairdresser's.

We can buy bread in a bakery.

We can do exercise at the gym.

We can eat in a restaurant.

We can have a drink in a cafe.

We can do lots of things in the city.

Last year we spend a month learning about food and eating. Now we are taking some time to look it over, as I noticed students had forgotten some of the things they had studied.

Remember:

Breakfast is the meal we eat in the morning, just after we get up.

Lunch is a light meal. People eat a sandwich, some fruit, yogurt.

Dinner is the main meal.

For dessert we eat things like: fruit, yogurt, sweets, ice-cream, etc.

What can we put in a salad?

Students said: lettuce, tomato, cucumber, egg, carrots, and they are right, those are things we put in a salad. And more.

Students also made groups of foods: vegetables and fruits, cereals, dairy products ( made from milk), foods that have proteins (fish, meat, eggs) and sweets or foods with a lot of sugar.

HOMEWORK

Say what you eat 3 days this week. Example:

On Monday I have a glass of milk and cereal for breakfast.

For dinner (midday in Spain) I have a salad, fish and and apple for dessert.

lunes, 19 de enero de 2015

Hello boys and girls!

In our last lessons students have been trying to work with a partner. That's proved quite difficult and so far our great achievement has been sharing a notebook to prepare work. But I'm sure we'll learn to help each other little by little.

Anyway, we are still learning about the city, its places and what we can do there.

Only Irene and Raul did their homework last week, but they did a Great Job.

Last Friday students picked 4 cards of places in the city and put them in the order they wanted to visit those places.

Then they had to make sentences like this one:

First I am going to the park to play.

Then I am going to the supermarket to buy apples.

Later they worked in two teams and each team had to ask the other team:

Where are you going first?

We worked on the spelling of all the places in the city. Children had to match pictures and word signs.

We watched a video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMfJaeJ50SY  Then, each students decided what places they would like to have in their neighborhood and drew a picture of it. Favorite places with children are bakeries, cinemas or movie theaters, pizza restaurants and pet shops.

Homework
A. Watch this video and answer the questions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd-upMdKywE

1. Where do you borrow books?

2. Where do you watch movies?

3  Where do you swim?

4. Where do you learn a lot?

5. Where do you see animals?

Now, you ask 3 more questions like the question in exercise A, about places you can see in the video.

lunes, 12 de enero de 2015

Welcome back and Happy New Year 2015

I'm glad to say that it was a good beginning. It's amazing, some of the students still remember new words we had studied last December.

We are studying places in the city and what we can do in those places

Places in the city are:

Shops: furniture shop, ice cream shop, pet shop, bakery, market, supermarket, book shop, pharmacy.

Other places: church, park, post office, bus station, bus stop, fire station, gas station, hotel, restaurant, cafe, library, hospital, night club, gym, sports center, school, cinema, concert hall.

We are also learning to ask questions as:

What can you buy in a bakery?

And answer:

You can buy bread in a bakery.

Or:

What can you do in a cinema?

You can watch a film in a cinema.

So this is the trick:

First you say: What can you
Then you say a verb: buy (for shops) or do (for other places) Ex: What can you buy
Then you say in + a place. Ex: What can you buy in a pet shop? Or What can you do in a hotel?

HOMEWORK

Answer the questions:

1.What can you do in a park?

2.What can you do in a restaurant?

3.What can you buy in a bakery?

4.What can you do in a concert hall?

5.What can you buy in a pet shop.

Then, watch this video and say: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZiSFMe9DbE

What places in the city do you see in the video?

See you on Friday!
